Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan consider resumption of passenger rail transport

Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan discussed the possibility of resuming passenger rail transportation, Trend reports with reference to the Ministry of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan.

The mentioned issue was discussed during the meeting of the Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan Beibut Atamkulov with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kyrgyzstan Dastan Dyushekeyev.

It is reported that during the meeting, issues of cooperation in the field of transport and transit cargo were discussed.

In particular, the sides discussed the unhindered passage of transit goods along the China-Kazakhstan-Kyrgyzstan route, an increase in the frequency of flights between the two countries, as well as the possibility of resuming railway passenger traffic.

It is noted that the volume of transit cargo transportation by rail in Kazakhstan in 9M2021 increased by two percent (or 53,910 tons) and amounted to about 2.4 million tons (2.3 million tons in 9M2020).
