Iran sees surge in transit of goods

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Jan. 31

The transit of goods through Iran increased by 75 percent, during the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through January 20, 2022), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director General of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) Alireza Moghaddasi said, Trend reports citing the administration.

Moghaddasi stressed that more than 10.2 million tons of goods were transited through Iran for the reporting period.

He also added that by the end of this Iranian year (March 20, 2022), transit of goods through Iran is expected to reach 12.4 million tons.

The director general noted that over the past 10 years, the transit of goods through Iran exceeded 13 million tons in 2014 alone.

“Meanwhile, over the past two years, the annual transit amounted to 7.5 million tons for each year,” Moghaddasi said.
