BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 5. The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at the Caspian port of Iran’s Gilan Province in the north of the country increased by 79 percent, during the first 11 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through February 19, 2023), compared to the same period last Iranian year, Director of Iran’s Anzali Free Trade Zone Isa Farhadi told IRNA, Trend reports.

Farhadi noted that a total of 486,000 tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in the Caspian port within 11 months, while the figure stood at 271,000 tons in the same period last Iranian year.

The director added that 142 ships owned by foreign countries and 28 ships by local Iranian companies docked at the Caspian port in 11 months.

“At the same time, $564 million worth of cargo were exported and $37.3 million were imported through the port for the reporting period,” he said.

Currently, the Caspian port has the capacity to receive 3-5 million tons of cargo per year. If the port is fully operational, it will be possible to load and unload 15 million tons of cargo per year.
