Iran shares data on cargo transit via country’s railways

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 28. Overall, 1.34 million tons of cargo were transited through Iran's railway lines, during the first 11 months of the last Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through February 19, 2023), Trend reports citing the Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.

Within the mentioned 11 months, the most volume of cargo was transited through Iran’s Sarakhs railway line on the border with Turkmenistan. So, 737,000 tons of cargo were transited through this railway line.

Meanwhile, the least amount of cargo for 11 months was transited through Iran’s Mirjaveh railway line on the border with Pakistan, which amounted to 863 tons.

Generally, a total of 41 million tons of cargo were transported through railways in Iran. The most volume of cargo transportation was recorded in Yazd Province (11 million tons), while the least volume – in Lorestan Province (128,000 tons).

In 11 months, 27 million passengers were transported by railways in Iran, which is an increase of 42 percent compared to 11 months of the preceding Iranian year.

The most number of passengers - 9 million people - were transported in Tehran Province, while the least number - 99,000 people - in Sistan and Baluchestan Provinces.

Currently, 978 locomotives, 29,305 freight wagons and 2,153 passenger wagons are in operation on Iran's railways.
