BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 25. The length of the railways to be put into use in Iran for the current Iranian year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), is expected to double compared to the previous 12 years, an official of Iran’s Construction and Development of Transportation Infrastructures Company (CDTIC), Masoud Jahani said, Trend reports citing Iranian Ministry of Roads and Urban Development.
The official noted that on average, 199 km long railways were put into operation in Iran over the past 12 years, while in the current Iranian year, 407 km long railways are planned to be launched in the country.
Jahani added that more than 1,000 kilometers of railway lines will be put into operation in the country by the end of the current Iranian government’s term (August 2025), if needed 250 trillion rials (about $5.95 billion) are provided.
“Last year (March 21, 2022 through March 20, 2023), infrastructure works was carried out on the 114 km long railway lines under construction in the country, railway line were laid on the 120 km long part, and railway stations were built on 10,000 square meters of land,” he said.
Currently, the length of railway lines in Iran is 14,984 kilometers.
As reported, Iran is focusing on the construction of important railway lines, including Chabahar-Zahedan, Zahedan-Mashhad, Shiraz-Bushehr, and Rasht-Astara, to be ready for use in the next few years. With the launch of the mentioned railway lines, cargo transportation within the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) will be carried out by railways.
