Loading/unloading activity at Iran’s Anzali port surges

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 24. The volume of cargo loaded and unloaded at Iran’s Anzali port in Gilan Province (northern Iran) increased by 31 percent in the first 10 months of the current Iranian year (March 21, 2023 through January 20, 2024), compared with the same period last year, Director General of Gilan Province’s Ports and Maritime Department Hossein Younesi said, Trend reports.

The director general stated that more than 1.63 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Anzali port for 10 months.

Younesi also said that 1.32 million tons of goods were imported into the country via Anzali port during the reporting period. This is an increase of 51 percent compared to the same period last Iranian year.

According to him, grain, cooking oil, and iron materials were the main imported items via the port.

"Over 10 months, 599 ships docked at Anzali port, showing an increase of 41 percent compared to the same period last year," the official noted.

Reportedly, Iran's Anzali port is considered one of Iran's main ports on the Caspian Sea. The annual loading and unloading capacity of this port is 6.15 million tons.

In the 9th month alone (November 22 through December 21, 2023), approximately 125,000 tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded at Anzali port in Iran.
