CIS Defense Ministers discuss future plans

Defense ministers of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) have summarized the work done so far and outlined plans for the future, the Defense Ministry of Kazakhstan reported.
"CIS defense ministers reviewed more than 20 issues on various aspects of multilateral partnership," the Ministry said. "The meeting reviewed the results of the working bodies of the CIS Council of Defense Ministers (CDM) in 2011 and reviewed the business plan for 2012."
The 61st meeting of the CIS CDM has kicked off in Almaty today.
Attending the event were delegations of defense ministries of Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Ukraine
The ministers discussed issues of developing and improving joint military systems, particularly, the joint air defense system of CIS countries, agreed on priority directions of military-technical cooperation and perspectives of development in the field of science and science teaching personnel, and joint activities.
"The meeting mulled the realization of an action plan to implement the basic concept of navigation-time and topogeodesic provision of unified tactical management unit, safety and reliability of aircraft for military use, training of the armed forces of CIS countries to operate in mountainous terrain," the ministry said in its official statement
The physical training for the CIS armed forces and holding the 9th sport contest among the friendly armies dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Armed Forces of Kazakhstan were also on focus.
The meeting discussed the Military Memorial Committee of the Council of CIS Defense Ministers to perpetuate the memory of the courage and heroism of the peoples in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945.
The defense ministers submitted to the meeting the results of the International Competition of military-scientific work dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the CIS.
A list of joint activities of engineer troops and troops of radiation, chemical and biological protection were also mulled.
According to the CIS CDM member states, the decisions will consistently improve the system of multilateral military cooperation in the form of partnerships in the CIS, and to develop cooperation in military sphere.
