An examination will be conducted on the entire helicopter fleet of the country, Kazakh General Transport Prosecutor's Office said on Thursday.

"I have instructed transport prosecutors to inspect the entire helicopter fleet operating in Kazakhstan together with the competent agency," the press release quoted country's General Transport Prosecutor Ibray Tleugaleyev as saying.

This decision was taken after the loss of a MI-8 helicopter six days ago in the south of the country.

According to the transport prosecutor's office, a special 54-strong search and rescue team including police, railway workers and volunteers from nearby communities conducted a search for the helicopter. However, the measures taken up to now have not proved positive.

It has been decided to intensify search activities, to increase the number of search groups, to involve military units. Shots of the search area from space satellites were ordered.

Earlier the transport prosecutor's office opened a criminal investigation into the disappearance of the helicopter.

"The absence of an automatic emergency radio beacon in the aircraft prolongs the search process," Tleugaleyev stated.

According to the transport prosecutor's office, all helicopters must be equipped with at least one radio beacon which corresponds to the international convention, but was not included in the regulations of the country.

In this regard, transport prosecutor's office initiated changes in the relevant legal acts.
