The territory of Baikonur should be attributed to the so-called zone of ecological disaster. This proposal was made on Monday in Astana, by the head of the Union of Lawyers of Kazakhstan Anuar Tugel.
"In connection to the carrier rockets crash, as well as the use of heptyl as a fuel it is time to assign this land to the "zone of ecological disaster which will automatically increase the size of government benefits for the residents of this region," Anuar Tugel said.
He reminded that, according to the law, a number of territories of Kazakhstan are classified by zones, on the basis of environmental conditions. For example, the zone of ecological disaster includes Aral and Kazalinsky regions of Kyzylorda oblast and Chelkarsk region of Aktobe oblast.
This is the Aral Sea ecological disaster zone. The main criteria here are: the stable growth of population mortality, forced migration for environmental reasons, the excess of maximum permissible concentrations of pollutants, the complete destruction of ecosystems and their loss of self-healing ability and the catastrophic drying up of water objects.
"Baikonur is located at some distance from here, so it and the surrounding districts, as well as the regional center - the city of Kyzylorda rated as the zones of ecological crisis. In simple terms, it is a safer territory for living, but it is time to change its status," the Tugel said.
In addition, the Kazakh lawyers are ready to provide free legal assistance to residents of Kyzylorda oblast.
