Some eight million litres of counterfeit alcohol was confiscated in Kazakhstan in the past two years, the Minister of Finance Bolat Jamishev said at a government meeting on Tuesday.

"About eight million litres of counterfeit alcohol products and 7.9 million units of counterfeit registration and control brands were confiscated in the past two years. These figures show the significant problems in the area of alcohol beverage turnover," Jamishev said.

In turn, Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov spoke about the necessity of increasing excise taxes on alcohol during the discussion of this issue.

"We need to increase excises and arrange a clear turnover of the alcoholic beverage including its production," Akhmetov said.

According to the prime minister, Kazakhstan's partners in the Customs Union - Russia and Belarus, have increased their excises long ago which are three times more than those of Kazakhstan.

"We will submit this bill that tightens control over the turnover of alcohol beverage to the Majilis (Lower House of the Parliament)," the Finance Minister Bolat Jamishev said.
