Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrisov invited U.S Secretary of State John Kerry to visit Kazakhstan, the Kazakh foreign ministry said September 23.

"Idrisov delivered an official invitation to Kerry to visit Kazakhstan at a convenient time, while the U.S. side was invited to take part in the EXPO-2017 international exhibition in Astana," a statement says.

Idrisov and Kerry met in New York and discussed a wide range of bilateral issues, a statement says.

"The sides discussed relevant international issues, including the situation in Central Asia, Afghanistan and Ukraine, as well as Iran's nuclear program, during the meeting," the statement said. "Moreover, the development of relations and road junctions as part of the "Great Silk Road" revival projects was considered.
