Kazakh Investment and Development Ministry expects air tickets to decrease in price in the country by the yearend, Kazakhstan Today reported.

Speaking at the plenary session of Kazakh Parliament’s Senate, the head of the ministry Zhenis Kassymbek said that over 30 percent of the air ticket price falls on the price of aviation fuel.

He noted that currently Kazakhstan observes fuel deficit and the fuel price is quite high – about 300,000 tenges (312.08 tenges = $1) per ton. It is expected that fuel prices will decrease considerably by the yearend when modernization completes at all three Kazakhstan’s oil refineries, Kassymbek said, adding that it will lead to decrease in air tickets prices.

The minister also noted that this year Kazakhstan allows carrying up to seven flights to Astana from any foreign city within EXPO international exhibition in Astana, adding that some bids for such flights have been already launched. In particular, Kassymbek reminded that this summer Finnair will launch direct flight from Astana to Helsinki and WizzAir will launch direct flight from Astana to Warsaw.

The minister noted that new foreign airlines will increase competition on Kazakhstan’s air market and also favor the decrease of air ticket prices.
