President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev met with Director General of the World Trade Organization Roberto Azevedo, the press service of the presidential residence reported.
During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on the development of trade and economic cooperation in the current situation in the world, as well as discussed the preparations for the 12th WTO ministerial conference, which will be held in Astana in 2020.
"I am happy to welcome you back to our capital. We remember your active support to Kazakhstan during its accession to the WTO. Today, our country is an active member of the organization; it has been decided to hold the conference in Astana in 2020. We will make every effort to organize the event at the proper level," the president said.
The head of state noted that Kazakhstan fully supports the fundamental principles of WTO in strengthening and expanding trade and economic relations between the countries.
In turn, Roberto Azevedo thanked Nursultan Nazarbayev for the hospitality and the opportunity to discuss issues of further cooperation between Kazakhstan and the WTO.
