Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Trade and Integration has developed and introduced 15 Halal food standards since the beginning of 2021, Deputy General Director of National Accreditation Center under the Committee for Technical Regulation and Metrology of the Ministry Kainar Taizhanov said, Trend reports citing Kazakh media.

'Halal' refers to food products that are prepared following Islamic dietary laws and regulations that determine what is permissible, lawful and clean. The word halal literally means “permissible.” It is important for Muslim consumers to know the Halal status of certain food products to ensure that the foods meet their dietary requirements.

"The issue of Halal certificates is more related to quality issues. This year, more than 15 Halal standards were developed and adopted by the Ministry, which are now in being introduced,” Taizhanov said.

He noted that last year, the Ministry closely cooperated with bodies on standardization of the United Arab Emirates and Turkey, conducted work on the introduction of the newly-developed standards life.

“The compliance to the standards will be regulated closely and the existing issues will be resolved step by step," Taizhanov said.
