Kazakhstan is interested in agreeing and adopting a roadmap for the development of checkpoints on the common border with Russia, Chairman of the Senate of the Parliament of Kazakhstan Maulen Ashimbayev said, Trend reports citing the Kazakh media.

Ashimbayev made the remark during a meeting of the commission on cooperation between the Federation Council and the Senate, which is being held in Nur-Sultan city.

“We consider it important to agree and adopt a roadmap for the development of checkpoints across the Kazakh-Russian state border for the period up to 2025 in order to synchronize our actions in this direction,” the chairman said.

According to Ashimbayev, the senators of both countries could contribute to this process, as well as the development of cross-border cooperation in general.

“Both Kazakhstan and Russia are interested in the efficient and smooth operation of checkpoints on the joint border. The Kazakhstani side, taking into account the workload and throughput, has identified 27 points requiring reconstruction,” added the chairman of the Senate.

On June 27-28, a delegation of the Federation Council headed by its Chairman Valentina Matvienko is on a visit to Kazakhstan. The program of the trip includes meetings with the leadership of the country and parliamentarians.
