Kazakhstan may set temporary duties on export of oilseed crops

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Nov. 24

Trend:

The export volume of only oilseed crops from Kazakhstan reached almost 1 million tons in 2020, Chairman of the Committee on Agrarian Issues of the Mazhilis of Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan Erlan Barlybayev said, voicing the MP's request at the plenary session, Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s Kazinform news agency.

“Taking into account an export duty worth at least $100 per ton rather than $320 (as in Russia), an additional $100 million or 43 billion tenge would be transferred to the budget!” Barlybayev said.

According to the announced data, the export volume of wheat for the same period reached more than five million tons. Another aspect of processing cereals and oilseed crops is the high yield of bran, which is the basis for high-calorie feed.

“Everyone knows the disastrous situation this year with massive livestock losses and the transportation of hay to the arid districts via trains,” the chairman of the Committee said. “So, Kazakh cattle breeders would receive more than 1.5 million tons of bran, which is equivalent to 3-4 million tons of feed, while processing the indicated volumes in Kazakhstan.”

In this regard, the faction of the Ak Zhol Democratic Party demands to set temporary duties on the export of grain and oilseed crops and to spend the received income for agricultural producers.
