BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 17. The demand for Kazakh port services has sharply increased amidst the adjustment of trade routes and supply chains to the international political and economic situation, Trend reports referring to the Press Service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In the first five months of 2022, the overall cargo transshipment in the Aktau port amounted to 97 percent of 2021's result (1.5 million tons in five months of 2022 and 1.59 million tons in 2021), while container transshipment increased by 115 percent (16,267 TEU) compared to the same period in 2021.
Since the beginning of 2022, the total freight transportation in the Kuryk port made up over 70 percent of the same indicator for the whole of 2021 (over 700,000 tons in the five months of 2022 and one million tons in 2021).
Given the growing demand for terminal services, the Aktau port is currently establishing a container hub to transform traffic flows in the Central Asian region. Moreover, the port eyes to attract two additional specialized container carriers to the current five-feeder ships en route Aktau-Baku-Aktau by the end of 2022.
