BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 5. Kazakhstan and Iran discussed the possibility of developing existing container routes in the direction of Iran and in transit through this country, Trend reports via the Kazakh government.

The discussions were held during the meeting of Kazakhstan’s Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Trade and Integration Serik Zhumangarin with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Mahdi Safari.

The focus of the talks was made on the possibility of increasing the volume of trade between the two countries up to $3 billion, including $1 billion in the agro-industrial complex.

The negotiations resulted in an agreement that Iranian experts in the field of quarantine and veterinary certificates, headed by the first deputy minister of agriculture of Iran, will visit Kazakhstan in the near future to develop a detailed action plan.

Currently, there function three railway routes, and favorable tariff conditions have been established for container transportation of goods in the direction of Iran and further to other countries.

Besides, the parties expressed their intention to increase the cargo flow to four million tons per year and discussed the prospects for cooperation in the areas of electricity transit, the pharmaceutical industry, the field of building materials, as well as in the supply of components for power plants.
