BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 25. JSC NC KazMunayGas (KMG) and Italian Eni S.p.A. agreed to construct a hybrid energy plant in Kazakhstan’s Mangystau region, Trend reports, citing the press service of KazMunayGas.

The agreement was reached during the meeting between the KMG CEO Magzum Mirzagaliyev and the Eni S.p.A. Director of Exploration and Production, Luca Vignati.

The hybrid plant will support green energy development in Kazakhstan by producing solar and wind energy, in addition to operating on gas. The total capacity of the plant will amount to 120 MW.

KMG expects the plant to contribute to several sectors of the Kazakh economy.

“In addition to strengthening the energy security of the region, its important dividends will be the inflow of investments and the creation of new jobs”, Mirzagaliyev said.

The solar energy generating unit is expected to be commissioned in 2024, while the gas and wind energy units are forecasted to enter into service in 2025.

The agreement on the construction of a hybrid power plant is a continuation of the work of KMG and ENI under the Memorandum of Cooperation signed in July 2021. The MoU outlines the cooperation strategy in the development of energy transition projects for the production and sale of electricity.
