BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 30. The unemployment rate in Kazakhstan remained at the 4.9 percent level, unchanged compared to 2021, Trend reports, citing the Bureau of National Statistics of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of Kazakhstan.

Despite that, the percentage of unemployed remained the same, and the number of people looking for job openings amounted to 458,300. This is a slight increase of 8,700 unemployed people compared to 449,600 recorded in 2021.

The Bureau notes that of 9 million people working in various sectors of the economy, 6.9 million people were employed, which amounts to 76.3 percent of the total workforce. Meanwhile, 2.1 million people, or 23.7 percent, were self-employed.

The majority of the workforce was employed in the trade sector (16.7 percent). Education (12.7), industry (12.5), and agriculture (12.4) demonstrated similar results and were other popular sectors of economic activity for Kazakh citizens and residents.

Unemployment, for people between the age of 15 and 28, reached 3.8 percent.
