ASTANA, Kazakhstan, July 4. The spring fieldwork in Kazakhstan has been completed successfully and within the optimal timeframe in all regions this year, Yerbol Karashukeyev, the country's Minister of Agriculture, said during a government meeting, Trend reports.

"Special attention is being given to the development of irrigated agriculture, as it plays a vital role in ensuring food security in the face of ongoing water scarcity and global climate change," the minister said.

He also highlighted that, according to the regional authorities, a total of 1.58 million hectares of irrigated land are being cultivated this year. Based on last year's water consumption for irrigation purposes, approximately 11.4 billion cubic meters of water will be required for the cultivation of these 1.58 million hectares, with the majority being allocated for rice and forage crops.

"A total of 1.126 million hectares or 71 percent of lands are irrigated by furrowing, while 97,900 hectares by using flood irrigation. Additionally, modern drip and sprinkler irrigation systems are utilized on 278,600 hectares, accounting for 17.6 percent of irrigated land," the minister added.

The successful completion of the spring fieldwork across all regions of Kazakhstan reflects the country's commitment to efficient agricultural practices and sustainable food production.
