ASTANA, Kazakhstan, August 31. Kazakhstan's Prime Minister Alihan Smailov spoke about the progress of major railway infrastructure projects during an extended meeting of the "AMANAT" party faction, Trend reports.
"Active construction is underway on the 'Dostyk-Moyinty' [railway section] project, envisioning a fivefold increase in the capacity of this section. Moreover, the technical and economic feasibility has been developed for the construction of the 'Bakhty-Ayagoz' railway section," Smailov said.
According to him, the above construction will additionally increase the capacity between Kazakhstan and China by 20 million tons of cargo.
"This year, over 1,300 kilometers of railway tracks are also planned to be repaired," he explained.
Besides, he pointed out the ongoing work on the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) and the elimination of bottlenecks.
The capacity of this route is planned to be increased from six to 10 million tons of cargo per year by 2025, the official added.
In 2022, the volume of freight transport along the TITR witnessed a 2.5-fold increase, reaching 1.5 million tons. The surge continued in 2023, with freight volume for January through June surging by 77 percent compared to the same period last year, totaling 1.3 million tons.
