ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 19. A subsidiary of Kazakhstan Railways (KTZ, a national company) - "KTZ - Freight Transportation" LLP will acquire 218 locomotives, including 75 mainline diesel locomotives of the TE33AS series, 130 electric locomotives of the KZ8A series, and 13 switcher diesel locomotives of the TEM11A series until 2029, Trend reports.
As part of the investment program, "KTZ - Freight Transportation" LLP is carrying out a planned renewal of the locomotive fleet. Since the beginning of 2023, 86 modern locomotives have been purchased, including 55 diesel locomotives of the TE33AS series, 14 diesel locomotives of the 2TE25KM series, and 17 electric locomotives of the KZ8A series.
By the end of the year, the fleet will be replenished with another 52 locomotives.
Modern locomotives are assembled at factories in the city of Astana. Already, modern locomotives are transporting trains weighing more than 6,000 tons on the Kandyagash-Tobol, Tobol-Astana, Astana-Pavlodar, and other sections.
As of October 1, 2023, the fleet of the National Freight Carrier includes over 1,600 locomotives.
Earlier, during the official visit of the President of Kazakhstan, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev to China, KTZ concluded a framework cooperation agreement with the Chinese corporation CRRC, under which 200 locomotives will be purchased.
