Kazakhstan reveals big plans for reconstruction of major roads countrywide

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 17. Reconstruction and repairs covered 10,700 km of roads in Kazakhstan in 2023, said Transport Minister Marat Karabayev at a meeting in the government, Trend reports.

In particular, traffic has already been opened partially on some roads that have been in development for 5 years or so. These are the sections of Karaganda - Almaty, Taldykorgan - Ust-Kamenogorsk, Atyrau - Astrakhan, Merke - Burylbaytal.

As the minister noted, their full completion is planned for 2024, with a total of 856 km of roads put into operation in 2023.

In general, in the coming years it is planned to reconstruct major highways with a length of 4,700 km (13 priority projects), as well as repair the main regional roads for 4,300 km.

In addition, the minister presented information on the development of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR, or Middle Corridor) and seaports in the Caspian Sea, plans for the creation of a multimodal transit corridor Russia - Kazakhstan - China using the transboundary Irtysh River, as well as the main steps in the field of air transport, including the creation of air transit hubs in Kazakhstan.

To date, 13 international transport corridors have been formed and operate in Kazakhstan: 5 railway and 8 road.

From January through October 2023, the volume of transit transportation by rail increased by 19 percent to 22.5 million tons of cargo, by road transport by 17 percent to 3.4 million tons.
