ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 29. Kazakhstan places a premium on delivering energy and heat to the Mangistau region, said Vice Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Askhat Khasenov, Trend reports.
The only energy source in the region is Mangystau Nuclear Power Plant (MAEK) LLP, with a total available electrical capacity of 895 MW.
In order to provide the region with additional electricity, an investment agreement was concluded between the Ministry of Energy and MAEK in 2022 for the construction of a combined cycle gas turbine with a capacity of 139 MW.
In addition, projects are being implemented in the region for the construction of a 110 KV power line and two 110/10 KV substations to provide external infrastructure for new microdistricts in the city of Aktau. The total cost of these projects will be 8 billion tenge (about $17.4 million).
After the completion of these projects, about 140,000 residents will be provided with a stable power supply.
As the vice minister noted, the project to strengthen the electrical network of the Western zone by the UES (unified energy system) of Kazakhstan has been completed, which will increase the electricity transmission capacity in the Mangistau energy hub from 50 to 200 MW.
In 2022, Kazakhstan produced 113.8 billion kWh of electricity, which is 1.1 percent less than in 2021.
Exports amounted to 2.2 billion kWh (+16.1 percent). The main buyers were: Russia: 1.5 billion kWh (+16.6 percent); Kyrgyzstan: 690 million kWh (+15.1 percent).
In turn, Kazakhstan bought 1.7 times more electricity than a year earlier—3.7 billion kWh. Most of it was imported from Russia: 1.9 billion kWh (+8.4 percent), and Kyrgyzstan supplied 1.7 billion kWh (+5.6 times).
