ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 10. A new plant for the production of caustic soda, polyvinyl chloride and calcium carbide will be built in the Turkestan region of Kazakhstan, Trend reports.
The project worth 153.88 billion tenge (about $338 million) will receive support from the Development Bank of Kazakhstan, a subsidiary of Baiterek holding, in the amount of up to 64.46 billion (about $141 million).
Currently, Kazakhstan does not have its own production of polyvinyl chloride, and the future plant will fully cover the needs of the domestic market for these products.
In addition, the project will give impetus to development of the chemical industry as a whole, including an increase in the domestic caustic soda market.
The project will also contribute to the development of the Turkestan region by creating thousands of jobs during the construction phase and 346 after launch.
Meanwhile, the plant's products are intended not only for the domestic market, but also for export to the countries of the EAEU, the European Union, China and Türkiye.
Furthermore, the volume of gross regional product of the Turkestan region of Kazakhstan exceeded 3 trillion tenge (about $6.6 billion) in 2023.
The volume of attracted investments in the area economy surged by 1.4 times this year. In the region, a pool of 194 investment projects has been developed. Some 39 initiatives have been started last year.
At the same time, industrial production has already reached 758 billion tenge (about $1.67 billion) in 2023. The manufacturing of dairy and textile products, as well as electrical equipment, was primarily responsible for the increase.
