ASTANA, Kazakhstan, January 26. The commissioning of the large KIA car plant, which is being built in the Kostanay region of Kazakhstan, is scheduled for 2025, said General Director of the enterprise Kim Dae-Ki, Trend reports.

He made the remark during a visit of Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov to the plant.

Kim Dae-Ki noted that 1,500 new jobs will be created at the enterprise. At the initial stage, it is planned to establish small-scale production of 3 models: Sorento, Sportage and Cerato.

In turn, Alikhan Smailov pointed out that Kazakhstan welcomes the implementation of such a large investment project.

"As far as I know, this is the only plant of its kind on the Eurasian continent. One is in the US and the second is here. This is a very important project for our republic, considering the capacity of this plant," he said.

According to the PM, at the end of last year, 148,000 cars were produced in the country, which is 30 percent more than the year before.

Meanwhile, construction of a full-cycle plant for the production of Kia cars has started in the Kostanay region of Kazakhstan in 2023. The production capacity of the new plant will be 70,000 cars per year. About $250 million of foreign investment will be invested in the project. Construction work is expected to be completed in 2024, after which installation of equipment will begin.
