ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 21. Loading on the Kazakhstan Railways' (KTZ, national company) network amounted to 20.2 million tons in January 2024, Trend reports.
According tot the KTZ, cargo transportation by rail within the country increased by 4.7 percent compared to the same period in 2023, to 13.2 million tons. Exports amounted to 7 million tons.
The loading volumes of KTZ’s main social cargo – hard coal – amounted to 9 million tons, including over 6.5 million tons within the country.
The second social cargo on the KTZ network - grain - was transported over 720,000 tons, including about 560,000 tons for export.
Oil cargo was loaded 4.8 percent more than in January 2023 – 1.6 million tons. Exports increased by 34.7 percent, more than 490,000 tons. The transportation of ferrous metals across the country increased by 33.6 percent. Loading of chemical fertilizers increased by 10.3 percent. Exports increased by 71 percent, to 127,000 tons.
Also, positive dynamics are observed in the loading of iron and manganese ore - an increase of 30.7 percent, up to 1.5 million tons, non-ferrous ore - an increase of 22 percent, up to 1.9 million tons. Loading of construction cargo during the reporting month amounted to 687,000 tons.
Meanwhile, the volume of cargo transportation by rail in Kazakhstan amounted to 416.4 million tons from January through December 2023. This is 2.8 percent more than from January through December 2022.
At the same time, cargo turnover by rail for the above period amounted to 326.8 billion ton-kilometers, which is 4.8 percent more than in the same period in 2022.
