ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 23. The volume of electrical energy consumption in Kazakhstan was at the level of 115 billion kWh in 2023, said the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almassadam Satkaliyev, Trend reports.
"In 2023, the volume of electrical energy consumption was at the level of 115 billion kWh, the production of electrical energy amounted to 112.8 billion kWh. At the same time, imports of electrical energy from neighboring countries amounted to 3.4 billion kWh, exports – 1.4 billion kWh," the minister said.
At the same time, Satkaliyev noted that according to forecasts, 115 billion kWh of electricity will be produced in 2024
Electric energy generation in Kazakhstan is carried out by 222 power plants, of which 146 are renewable energy facilities with a total capacity of 2.8 GW.
Today, there are 220 power plants operating in the country, including 144 renewable energy ones, with a total capacity of 2.8 GW. In general, as of January 1, 2024, the total available capacity was 20.4 GW, and the maximum consumption in the current autumn-winter period was 16.6 GW.
Satkaliyev pointed out that to ensure reliable energy supply to the economy and population of the country in the coming years, the gradual introduction of new energy capacities and the modernization of existing power plants are envisaged.
At the same time, according to the minister, a significant reduction in the share of coal generation in the volume of electricity consumption will be ensured through the introduction of renewable energy sources and gas generation.
In 2022, Kazakhstan produced 112.8 billion kWh of electricity. Exports amounted to 2.2 billion kWh (an increase of 16.1 percent). The main buyers were: Russia – 1.5 billion kWh (an increase of 16.6 percent), Kyrgyzstan – 690 million kWh (an increase of 15.1 percent).
In turn, Kazakhstan bought 1.7 times more electricity than a year earlier - 3.7 billion kWh. Most of it was imported from Russia - 1.9 billion kWh (an increase of 8.4 percent), and Kyrgyzstan supplied 1.7 billion kWh (an increase of 5.6 times).
