ASTANA, Kazakhstan, June 24. The Institute of Nuclear Physics of Kazakhstan has provided Kyrgyzstan with a molybdenum-99/technetium-99 generator, a crucial tool for diagnosing cancer and heart diseases, Trend reports.

According to the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan, the supply of the generator to Kyrgyzstan was carried out within the framework of cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

In 2023, the Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Almassadam Satkaliyev and the Director General of the IAEA Rafael Grossi signed a Country Program Framework between Kazakhstan and the Agency for 2023–2028. The program identifies four priority areas: nuclear energy infrastructure, nuclear and radiation safety, food security, and nuclear medicine.

The Institute of Nuclear Physics in Kazakhstan is the sole organization with a GMP certificate, which validates the adherence of their radiopharmaceutical production process to international standards.

As the Ministry noted, the supply of radiopharmaceuticals to Kyrgyzstan is an important step towards strengthening the healthcare system and increasing the availability of advanced medical technologies for residents of Kyrgyzstan.

Meanwhile, the trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in 2023 amounted to over $1.3 billion, which is 11.6 percent more than $1.1 billion in 2022.

Kyrgyzstan’s exports to Kazakhstan during last year reached $455 million, increasing by 10.9 percent compared to $410 million in 2022.

Moreover, Kyrgyzstan's imports from Kazakhstan in 2023 totaled $862 million, which is an 11.9 percent increase compared to the 2022 figures ($770 million).
