White House officially announced visit of Kazakh President to the US

(Kazinform) The White House has officially announced of Kazakhstani Presidents visit to the US on September 29, 2006; Kazinform refers to press service of Kazakh Embassy in the US, reports Trend.

At a briefing press secretary of the White House Tony Snow stated that Kazakhstan was an important strategic partner in Central Asia. Presidents George Bush and Nursultan Nazarbayev will discuss a wide range of issues connected with promotion of democracy, struggle against terrorism, energy diversification, enhancement of freedom and security.

Kazakh Ambassador to the US Kanat Saudabayev noted that Kazakh side was ready to develop bilateral cooperation. Theme of the forthcoming talks will be interaction in promotion of peace and prosperity. This meeting will strengthen friendship between the two states and open new horizons for strategic partnership, he added.

America was the first country having acknowledged Kazakhstans independence and established diplomatic relations with it in 1991. In 2001 Kazakh and the US leaders defined relations between the two countries as long-term strategic partnership. Its key components are cooperation in the sphere of security and nonproliferation, energy partnership and dialogue in the field of democracy.

Since 1991 within the framework of Nunn-Lugar Cooperative Threat Reduction Program the US has rendered assistance to Kazakhstan in liquidation of nuclear armory and infrastructure for production of mass destructive weapon. Currently this collaboration continues focusing at attenuating of highly enriched uranium.

After terrorist act of September 11, 2001 Kazakhstan continues to give support to the US in countering terrorism including help in rehabilitation of Afghanistan. Kazakhstan became one of Muslim states having sent its military commitment to Iraq within the framework of international coalition.

Economic cooperation between Kazakhstan and America is actively developing as the US is the largest investor in Kazakhstan. More than 400 American companies work in the state.
