Chinese Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang pledged here Monday that China was ready to enhance comprehensive cooperation with Kyrgyzstan in areas such as economy, trade, transportation and infrastructure, Xinhua reported.

Zhang made the remarks in a meeting with Maxim Bakiyev, head of Kyrgyzstan's Central Agency for Development, Investment and Innovation.

Speaking highly of the bilateral relations, Zhang said China would always support Kyrgyzstan's efforts for realizing development and safeguarding national independence, state sovereignty and security.

China attached great importance to developing practical cooperation with Kyrgyzstan, said Zhang, noting China was willing to work with Kyrgyzstan to lift the bilateral relationship to a new high.

Bakiyev said Kyrgyzstan was ready to reinforce exchanges and cooperation with China, work together with China to maintain regional peace and stability, and push forward bilateral friendship of cooperation.

The agency, newly founded in the second half of last year, was reported to play a crucial role in setting Kyrgyzstan's economic strategy.

It is Bakiyev's first visit to China since he took office. During the four-day tour, he was scheduled to visit the Chinese ministries of railways and commerce.

Zhang also expressed China's gratitude for Kyrgyzstan's support on issues concerning China's core interests, including Taiwan issue and Tibet-related issues, and fighting "East Turkistan" forces.

Kyrgyzstan is now China's third largest trade partner within the Commonwealth of Independent States, only after Russia and Kazakhstan.
