Kazakhstan will lift the state of alert in its border area with Kyrgyzstan on July 20 due to a stabilized situation on the Kyrgyz side, a security official said on Wednesday, Xinhua reported.
Amangelda Abilkanov, a high-ranking official from Kazakhstan's National Security Committee, told a news conference that since July 8, the country has been taking measures to restore normalcy in the border area.
Kazakhstan has a 1,240-km borderline with Kyrgyzstan on its southeast.
It elevated border security level following a massive influx of Kyrgyz refugees. Kyrgyzstan was gripped by chaos since nationwide protests ousted former president Kurmanbek Bakiyev in April and sparked riots in the country's south.
