Members of the Parliament of Kyrgyzstan prepared a draft law on introduction of amendments and supplements to the Labour Code related to changing the day of rest from Sunday to Friday, the press service of Zhogorku Kenesh (parliament) informed RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

"85 percent of population of the Kyrgyz Republic profess Islam and implement their Islamic duties in their everyday life. A collective worship considered as one of the main forms of worshiping the Creator is performed in mosques on Friday. Friday worship takes part at noontime. In order to perform it, workers are constrained to leave their working places and that might create problems in their work," an explanatory note to the bill prepared by the MP from "Ar-Namys" party, former ombudsman Tursunbai Bakir uulu says.

The parliamentarian expressed his perplexity by the fact that during 70 years the days of rest in the Soviet Union, that was an atheist state, were Saturday and Sunday.

He noted that according to the Constitution of Kyrgyzstan, "everyone is free to choose and have religious and other beliefs", and people's customs and traditions, that do not violate human rights and freedoms, including Friday worship, should be supported by the state.
Bakir uulu noted that changing the day off doesn't require any expenses from the state.

Previously Kyrgyzstani parliamentarians had offered to legalize polygamy according to Islamic norms, but that draft wasn't supported neither by the society nor by the majority of parliamentaries.
