BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 6. Kyrgyzstan has allocated some 4.4 billion soms ($50.2 million) for the Water Resources Service to be distributed in 2023, Trend reports.
The Ministry of Finance of the country reported that, out of this volume, 1.2 billion soms ($13.7 million) accounted for the budget and special accounts, while 3.2 billion soms ($36.5 million) fell on the funds of public investment.
According to the data, 1 billion soms ($11.4 million) have been allocated from the budget for the rehabilitation of irrigation systems, of which 362.1 million soms ($31,780) have already been distributed.
Meanwhile, to modernize Kyrgyzstan's irrigation networks, investments of some $800 million are required, while an additional $400 million is needed to ensure access to clean drinking water for the remaining villages.
"The issue of water resource management is very relevant, with the World Bank (WB) and the government taking the lead. Together, we will be able to unite other financial institutions in this direction," Akylbek Zhaparov, Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Kyrgyzstan, said.
