Kyrgyzstan's tourism exports grow, offset by rise in imports

BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, October 10. The export of tourism services (income from hosting foreign citizens) in Kyrgyzstan amounted to $471.1 million from January through June 2023, increasing by 2.1 times year-on-year, Trend reports.

The import of tourism services (expenses of Kyrgyz citizens abroad) in the first half of this year reached $261.9 million, which is a rise of a 3.8 times compared to the same period of 2022.

During the first half of this year, out of the total number of insurance contracts concluded, 14.8 percent, or 27,000 contracts, were related to tourism insurance. Compared to the same period last year, the number of insurance contracts concluded for tourism increased by 1.6 times.

In Kyrgyzstan, there were 123,100 business entities engaged in economic activities related to the tourism sector, as of July 1, 2023.

The majority of these entities were located in Bishkek, accounting for 24,300 businesses, or 19.7 percent, followed by the Osh region with 20,200 businesses, or 16.4 percent, Chuy region with 18,400 businesses, or 14.9 percent, the city of Osh with 16,000 businesses, or 13 percent, and Batken region with 13,200 businesses, or 10.7 percent.
