BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, February 26. Kyrgyzstan saw a rise in imports of lignite (brown coal) from Kazakhstan in 2023, Trend reports.
According to figures from Kyrgyzstan's State Statistical
Committee, the amount reached 14,981 tons, a 47 percent increase
from 10,144 tons in 2022. These imports totaled $435,000, a 15
percent increase from the $375,500 reported in 2022.
Last year, Kazakhstan continued to be Kyrgyzstan's sole supplier of
lignite.
Trade turnover between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan was $1.317 billion
in 2023, up 11.6 percent from $1.181 billion in 2022.
Kyrgyzstan's exports to Kazakhstan during the year totaled
$455.702 million, a 10.9 percent rise from $410.888 million in
2022. Imports from Kazakhstan in 2023 reached $862.182 million, an
increase of 11.9 percent over 2022 ($770.215 million).
Kyrgyzstan's foreign trade turnover totaled $15.660 billion in
2023, a 29.9 percent increase over 2022 ($12.057 billion). The
country's exports totaled $3.308 billion, up 46.8 percent year on
year ($2.254 billion in 2022). Imports to Kyrgyzstan totaled
$12.352 billion, up 26 percent from $9.803 billion in 2022.
