BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 26. The Global Textiles and Clothing Programme (GTEX) in Tajikistan backed by the International Trade Centre (ITC) has continued supporting beneficiary companies to extend and diversify their supply base and establish new business contacts in 2022, Saidmumin Kamolov, GTEX National Programme Manager in Tajikistan told Trend.
According to him, the main export destinations for Global Textiles and Clothing Programme's beneficiary companies of Tajikistan in 2022 were Türkiye, Russia, Kazakhstan, and Iran. Tajik companies mainly exported cotton yarn, garment, socks, sportswear, and knitwear products.
“In 2022, ten new textiles and clothing companies joined the project, raising the total number of project partners up to 32 companies. Five of them were recognized among the best companies of the sector in 2022,” the manager of the GTEX said.
He pointed out that some 45 new export contracts were signed by 14 GTEX beneficiary companies thanks to the direct support provided by the project.
Furthermore, last year the beneficiary companies’ of GTEX have increased the average salary of their employees for 12 percept compared to the previous year.
“During 2022, the beneficiary companies participated in the international fairs and marketing missions in Istanbul, Tashkent (two separate fairs), Almaty, Moscow, and Munich,” Kamolov added.
The International Trade Centre (ITC) has been supporting the textile clothing sector in Tajikistan since 2009. The Global Textiles and Clothing Programme, launched in 2018 and funded by the Government of Switzerland, is built on the previous experience. GTEX aims to stimulate textile and clothing export, promote employment and income generation in Tajikistan.
