BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 1. The National Bank of Tajikistan has lowered the refinancing rate by 1.0 percentage point, from 11 percent to 10 percent per annum, Trend reports with reference to the bank.

Such a decision was made at the latest meeting of the Monetary Policy Committee of the National Bank, which took place last April 28. The new rate has come into effect on May 1.

This is the second change in the refinancing rate in Tajikistan this year. Earlier, at the beginning of February, the rate was reduced by 2.0 percentage points, from 13 percent to 12 percent.

The refinancing rate is the minimum interest rate at which the National Bank of Tajikistan lends to banks to provide their short-term liquidity. The term of such loans, which banks can get in the auctions conducted by the regulator, ranges from one day to 28 days.

Banks use these loans to support short-term liquidity, to fulfill their immediate obligations, including inter-bank payments, for servicing international financial institutions, and so on.
