DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, November 25. Food production in Tajikistan increased from January through October 2023 compared to the same period of 2022, Trend reports.

As per the data from the country's Statistical agency, the production of food items, including beverages and tobacco, surged by 24.9 percent year-on-year during the reporting period.

This growth was driven by an increase in sausage production by 4.4 percent, spirits and liquor production by 16.7 percent, and non-alcoholic beverages production by 30 percent.

Additionally, the production in the textile and garment sector grew by 8.2 percent, propelled by a rise in cotton yarn production by 7.7 percent and adras fabrics by twofold.

Overall, the industrial production in Tajikistan rose by 8.9 percent year-on-year from January through October 2023, compared to the same period last year. It amounted to 7.059 billion somoni ($3.4 billion).

Tajikistan is now implementing a rapid industrialization strategy for the years 2022-2026. In January 2022, President Rahmon named this period the 'Years of Industrial Development,' with ambitious intentions to raise industrial output by 2.5 times in five years. The target for 2026 is 95 billion somoni ($9.3 billion), up from 38.8 billion somoni ($3.7 billion) in 2021.
