Preventive measures to allow Turkmenistan to minimize consequences of global crisis: EBRD

Turkmenistan will be able to counteract "negative impact of economic crisis covered the world and to minimize its consequences due to taken preventive measures," Turkmen dovlet habarlari (TDX) news agency reported on Feb. 20.

The delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) headed by economist Heike Harmgart being in Ashgabat came to this conclusion, TDX reported. The experts of the International Monetary Fund came to similar conclusion concerning Turkmen prospects, Trend reported earlier.

The EBRD sees great prospects for long-term economic growth of Turkmenistan, Harmgart said. It was stressed that establishment of the Stabilization Fund and other financial-bank reforms, including unification of exchange rate promoted to strengthen financial positions of the country.

The biggest European Bank plans to expand cooperation with Turkmenistan on some important issues, including investments to the private sector. The EBRD delegation held some meetings in the Ministry of Finance, the Institute of Strategic Planning and Economic Development and the State Statistics Committee.
