The 13th meeting of the joint Turkmen-Iranian intergovernmental commission on consular, border and customs issues is being held in Ashgabat, the Turkmen Foreign Ministry said in a message March 13.

According to the message, heads and representatives of the corresponding ministries and law enforcement agencies of the two neighboring countries are taking part in the meeting.

The sides stressed the importance of development of border and customs infrastructure with the aim of increasing the volume of trade turnover between the two countries, as well as development of trade and economic relations.

The sides also talked about the need to exchange information on combating smuggling, illicit traffic in drugs, common threats and challenges.

Iran is the third most important foreign trade partner of Turkmenistan. The two countries focus on intensifying joint activity in the transport and transit sector, road construction, power engineering and gas sector.
