Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and his Qatari counterpart Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani discussed prospects for further developing bilateral cooperation during a telephone conversation, Trend reports with reference to Turkmen Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The interlocutors stressed that the relationship between the countries has reached a new level and particularly noted the work of Joint Turkmen-Qatari Intergovernmental Commission on Trade-Economic Cooperation, which plays a significant role in this sphere.

The parties confirmed their countries' commitment to strengthen collaboration in a number of sectors. In particular, the sides considered the level of partnership in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian fields.

The parties also discussed issues of consolidating joint efforts to counter the coronavirus pandemic.

Turkmenistan is interested in the involvement of large financial and investment structures of Qatar in the implementation of the project on Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, the construction of which began in December 2015.

Furthermore, a memorandum of understanding on the financing of potential projects in Turkmenistan was signed between Qatar’s Al Qamra Holding and the government of Turkmenistan.

Following the agreement signing, State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs of Turkmenistan held a presentation of major investment projects implemented in the country for the representative delegation of Qatar headed by Director of Al Qamra Holding Hamad Saleh al Qamra.
