Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights and Labor, Jane Zimmerman discussed the cooperation of two countries in the sphere of civil society institutions' development and human rights protection with Human Rights Commissioner (Ombudsman), Sayera Rashidova in Uzbekistan, the Uzbek National Information Agency (UzA) said today.
It was stressed that cooperation with the ombudsmen of other countries was established, which contributes to the international community's familiarization with the process of intensifying the democratic reforms in Uzbekistan, as well as expansion of partnership with international institutions on human rights.
The parties noted that as a result of reforms on establishment of a legal democratic country and strong civil society, conducted in the country, organizational and legal basis for protection of human rights and interests was created. The Ombudsman's Office plays an important role in implementation of the parliamentary control over the legislative acts related to human rights, restoration of citizens' violated rights, as well as improvement of legislation in this sphere.
The parties agreed that there are all opportunities for strengthening the relations in this direction. They also agreed on further intensification of cooperation, UzA said.
