The launch of the ball mill, capable of processing 1.4 million tons of gold ore per year, resulted in over $2 million in foreign exchange savings in Uzbekistan, Trend reports citing the press service of Navoi Mining and Metallurgy Complex (NMMC).
At the end of 2020, a ball mill No. 73 was launched at full production capacity at the hydrometallurgical plant No. 2 in Zarafshan city of Uzbekistan's Navoiy region. Manufactured in the workshops of the NMMC the ball mill is capable of processing 1.4 million tons of gold ore per year.
According to the information, NMMC specialists were assigned the task of mastering a ball mill with a drum volume of 140 cubic meters in order to save currency, localize the equipment, as well as establish the production of new types of localized products in 2019.
It is reported that a record weight of liquid metal exceeding 28 tons was obtained by casting the mill spare parts using continuous casting technology. As a result, the total weight of the casting exceeded 350 tons.
The specialists of the Central Design Bureau of the plant in the shortest possible time developed drawings for the installation of the mill to increase the productivity of mill units No. 29, 30 launched last year. The employees of the Central Mining Administration, the GMZ-2 tracked minelayer, Zarafshan Construction Administration carried out construction and installation work.
NMMC stressed that this mill is the first step towards the development of heavy engineering in Uzbekistan.

“Before that, more than 70 foreign-made ball mills of various sizes were used in the grinding shop of the hydrometallurgical plant No. 2 of the plant,” NMMC notes.
