Uzbekistan introduces compulsory certification of environmentally hazardous products

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 18

By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

Uzbekistan’s government has approved the regulation on the procedure for compulsory environmental certification of environmentally hazardous products and waste for import into Uzbekistan and export from the country, Trend reports citing the Ministry of Justice.

According to the regulation, the import and export of environmentally hazardous products and waste with regards to Uzbekistan will be carried out on the basis of an environmental certificate issued by an environmental certification body accredited by the State Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection of Uzbekistan.

In order to obtain a certificate, an applicant must apply through the customs information system "Single Window" or directly to the environmental certification body in the system of the State Committee on Environment.

The environmental certification body analyzes the submitted documents within one working day, and, if the submitted documents are complete, makes a decision on certification of environmentally hazardous products and waste.

An environmental certificate is provided for each batch of environmentally hazardous products and waste for a period not exceeding one year and for the processes of mass production of products for a period of three years. The procedure comes into force on May 1, 2021.

Previously, environmentally hazardous products were subject to environmental certification only in accordance with the nomenclature approved by the Cabinet of Ministers.
