BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 20. Uzbekistan eyes to increase the overall capacity of renewable electricity generation, Shavkat Mirziyoyev said during the meeting on improving energy supply, Trend reports via Uzbek Ministry of Energy.
In this regard, it was decided to construct 250 mini hydropower stations, which will generate 675 million kilowatt-hours of electricity. As a result, some 200 million cubic meters of gas per year will be saved.
In recent years, some 27 projects worth $500 million have been implemented in the hydropower sector, as well as an additional 260 megawatts of generating capacity have been created. The total capacity of the stations in the Uzbekhydroenergo system exceeded 2,000 megawatts. This means an annual saving of 2 billion cubic meters of natural gas.
According to the source, it is planned to put into operation additional 7 facilities and 10 micro-hydroelectric power plants with a capacity of 197 megawatts, as well as start implementation of the construction of 50 mini-hydropower plants with a capacity of 438 megawatts in 2023.
Uzbekistan pays great attention to renewable energy sources and allocates large funds for the development of this industry. This is one of the most important sectors of the economy of Uzbekistan. Uzbekistan is gradually increasing the number of renewable energy sources such as solar power plants, wind power plants, as well as hydropower plants
