BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 11. Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan will launch restoration work in the North Sokh gas storage facility, located in the territories of both countries, Trend reports via Uzbek Uztransgaz company.

The main part of the storage is located in Kyrgyzstan, and the compressor station is located in Uzbekistan. In total, the storage holds up to 3 billion cubic meters of gas, of which 1.3 billion could be taken by Uzbekistan in the winter season.

According to the company, on April 10, a working group from Uzbekistan, headed by the Ministry of Energy, visited the Kadamjay district of Kyrgyzstan’s Batken region to analyze existing problems and to develop a joint plan for accelerating the restoration project.

The idea of restoring the natural gas storage in the North Sokh facility was proposed by the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev. During his state visit to Kyrgyzstan, President Mirziyoyev discussed this matter with his Kyrgyz copartner.

The North Sokh underground gas storage facility was established in 1978 in order to provide natural gas to consumers of the Fergana region during the autumn-winter season. About 33 years later, since 2011, the work of the gas storage facility has been suspended, due to border delimitation matters.

Furthermore, there are two underground gas storage facilities in Uzbekistan. One of the underground gas storage facilities is located on the territory of Gazli in the Bukhara region, and the other one is in the Khojaabad district of the Andijan region.
