ACWA Power may build wind power plant in Uzbekistan

TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 23. ACWA POWER company has won the first stage of the tender for the construction of a 200 MW wind farm and a 100 MW electricity storage system in the Karaozak and Beruniy districts of the Republic of Karakalpakstan (Uzbekistan), Trend reports.

According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, on November 22, the winner of the first stage of the tender for the implementation of these projects was announced.

This project is being implemented with the support of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) as part of the "Program for the development and provision of consulting services for the construction of a wind farm with a total capacity of 200 MW".

Two international companies participated in the tender – ACWA POWER-Saudi (Saudi Arabia) and Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company – Masdar (UAE).

ACWA POWER-Saudi offered $4.09 cents for 1 kWh of electricity generated by the wind farm and electricity storage system, and Masdar offered $4.99 cents for 1 kWh of electricity.

A company from Saudi Arabia won the first round of the tender within the framework of this project, and Masdar was announced as the reserve winner of the tender.

Meanwhile, the investor who won the tender will design, finance and manage the wind farm.
