TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 24. Uzbekistan supplied more than $454.44 million worth of gas to China from January through October of 2023, Trend reports.
As per data by General Administration of Customs of China (GACC), the recorded number reflects a 2 times decrease compared to the same period last year, when the value of Uzbek exports amounted to $916.7 million.
Data from GACC shows that Uzbekistan ranked fifth among the countries exporting gas to China in the first 10 months of 2023, surpassed by Turkmenistan, Russia, Myanmar and Kazahkstan.
China is one of the top gas markets for Uzbekistan's supplies. Meanwhile, the gas exports from the Central Asian country have been falling, including a full stop of supplies from January through March 2023.
The latest available monthly data shows that Uzbekistan's gas exports to China were valued at $41.6 million, which is the lowest volume seen since the beginning of Uzbek gas exports. The decline can be explained by the suspension of gas exports from January through March of 2023 against the background of the energy crisis in Uzbekistan.
Uzbekistan has resumed the export of gas to China in April of 2023. The value of gas supplied to China for that month amounted to $40.47 million.
Moreover, in 2022, the Uzbek Uztransgaz JSC reported the possibility of completely abandoning gas exports in 2025-2026 due to the growth of its consumption in the local market.
